Everyone’s talking about AEO right now. Very few people actually break down how to do it. So here’s the entire playbook: the exact strategy, step by step, and how I scale it.
What Is AEO?
AEO stands for Answer Engine Optimization. In simple terms, it’s ranking for LLMs. It means getting your brand cited in AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and every other AI engine your customers now ask before they buy.
SEO got you ranked on Google. AEO gets you quoted by AI.
How Do You Know Your AEO Is Starting to Work?
The earliest signal is simple: check AI Overviews.
Search your target terms and see if your brand starts showing up in Google’s AI Overviews. If Google’s AI is citing you, the other LLMs won’t be far behind. That’s your first sign the strategy is working.
The 4 Types of Articles You Need
To implement a proper AEO strategy, your titles need to cover four kinds of articles:
- Informative articles: about your brand, your features, your product, your entity. This is how AI engines learn who you are.
- Listicles: “Best [business/tool] for [specific feature]”. These get cited constantly in AI answers.
- Alternatives: “[Your competitor] alternatives”. When someone asks AI for an alternative to your competitor, you want to be the answer.
- Comparisons: “[Competitor] vs [Your brand]”. Head-to-head content that positions you directly against the tools people already know.
How to Get Started: Reverse Engineer Your Competitors
Everything starts with deep competitor research. Here’s what you’re looking for:
- What terms is Google quoting your competitors for?
- What does it like about them?
- Are you ranking for similar terms and features alongside your competitor?
- Do you show up when someone searches for your competitor’s alternatives?
Based on all the terms your competitors are ranking for, you can now start planning your titles across each article type: informative, listicles, alternatives, and comparisons. Every term they’re cited for is a target. Every feature they’re praised for is a listicle where you place yourself at the top.
Where to Publish Your Articles
You’ve planned your titles. You’ve got the articles written, whether by ChatGPT or your own writers. Now, where do you post them?
- Your own site.
- Guest posts or external sites.
- Reddit threads. LLMs love Reddit.
- Other public platforms: X articles, LinkedIn Pulse, Quora, Medium, and Facebook group posts. Anywhere public and indexable.
How Long Does It Take?
Once everything’s published, wait 10-15 days, or even earlier depending on how quickly your content gets indexed. That’s when you should start appearing in AI Overviews.
That’s the entire AEO/SEO strategy. Simple to understand. Painful to execute manually at scale.
Which is exactly where Autoblogging.ai comes in.
How Autoblogging.ai Fits Into This Entire Strategy
Brands
Start by adding a Brand. Bring in facts about your brand and build out your brand’s writing style and tone of voice. From then on, every article you generate has a consistent voice, and the content stays factual.
Once your brand is added, it’s time for competitor research.
Competitor Research
The latest Competitor Research feature does exactly what this strategy demands. It finds your competitors automatically, and you can add a few yourself if you already know your direct competitors.
Then it does its deep research and figures out all the terms Google is citing your competitors for in AI Overviews. So if you want to beat a competitor, you can now see exactly what they’re being liked for, and then beat them on that specific term with a bunch of targeted articles.
That’s how you set up a laser-focused strategy instead of guessing.
Planning Titles
Doing this manually is mind-boggling. Planning titles for every competitor, for every term they rank for. Turning features into listicles. Figuring out which competitor is mentioned for which feature, then placing yourself as the top option. Now imagine doing that across hundreds of features and terms.
With Plan Titles, it happens in one click. It automatically segregates everything, creates the titles, maps which competitor is being cited for which feature, and sets up listicles with you positioned as the best option.
Generating Articles
Here’s where it gets interesting. Autoblogging.ai is built for scale. And I love scale, with the best quality in mind.
In just one click, you can generate articles for every kind of title you’ve planned. Each article comes out with all the listicle items, mentioning the exact competitor from your planned titles, for the exact same features.
It’s kind of crazy, and it works like a charm.
Generating Reddit Threads
I also run a done-for-you service for brands and agencies called Rankera.ai, where we do Reddit threads, Quora, and Facebook. We do 40 threads a month. To make the planning process easier for brands, I added the option to create Reddit threads right inside Autoblogging.ai.
So now you can generate articles for your titles, generate Reddit threads for the same titles, and publish both, compounding the narrative you’re trying to spread.
More platforms = more compounding effect.
Guest Posts
Generate the same titles again and publish them on external sites. This works like crazy as well.
This is where my other tool comes into play. It lets me build out a network of sites in the marketing, AI, and SaaS niches. It sends me clean expired domains. I just click register and launch, and it restores the Wayback history and launches the domain.
So instead of paying for one-off guest posts, I’m building a network of sites where I can publish a lot more. And that’s bringing in results too.
The Proof
Take the keyword “Arvow alternatives.” As I showed in my last video, Autoblogging.ai was nowhere to be seen for that term, at least in my region.
Here’s the difference after 60 or so articles across my network of sites: we show up now.
This is how you win AEO.
Implement it ASAP before your competitor does.
